Policies

Research Support

This policy applies to all Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering staff, faculty, administrators, officers and students (collectively, "users").

Desk-side Support

LCSEE Systems will provide basic desktop support for research computers based on our Desk-side Support service.  Requests beyond the scope of normal desk-side support services will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Server Support

LCSEE Systems will assist with the mounting and basic installation of research servers that are approved by the Statler College Dean for use in LCSEE Racks housed in the 212 ERB Research Data Center. See the Statler RDC Policy to request access.

Any specialized research support services requested from LCSEE Systems may be evaluated by the Lane Department Chair and Lane Department IT Director for support. Split-funded staffing arrangements are required in most cases.

Funding

Funding for software licensing, hardware repair, or computer equipment from external support groups must be provided by the research group and is not covered using general LCSEE Systems funding sources. This includes purchases from commercial vendors as well as costs from WVU’s Computer Repair and Assistance group.
