I'm a faculty member and need to add a shared office printer. What do I do?

Faculty and staff members have access to the following printers:

To install, first download the correct drivers for your platform from the Konica Minolta website. Most operating systems will automatically provide drivers for HP printers.

Windows Instructions

  1. Press the Start button and go to "Devices and Printers"

  2. Along the top of the window, click "Add Printer"

  3. Of the two options, select "Add a network, wireless, or Bluetooth printer"

  4. This next window will begin to look for printers. This is not needed for this tutorial. Select "The printer that I want isn't listed" along the bottom of the window. You do not need to wait for the search to finish before doing this.

  5. Select the third option "Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname". Click Next.

  6. Leave "Device Type" as "Autodetect". For "Hostname or IP address", enter the name of the printer that you would like to add. The "Port name" field will be automatically copied from the "Hostname or IP address" field as you type. Click Next. Example of Printer Name: bw256aer.statler.wvu.edu

  7. If it fails to contact the printer, make sure that the entered hostname is typed correctly.

  8. It should now ask for the driver for the printer. You will need to download the driver from the Konica Minolta website. Make sure to download the driver for your specific operating system. Don't forget about whether you have 64-bit or not!

  9. Once downloaded and extracted from the .zip file, go back to the printer window asking for a driver. Click "Have Disk" and navigate to wherever you downloaded the driver. Select the driver. Click Next.

  10. When asked about sharing the printer, select "Do not share the printer".

  11. Name the printer in the same format as listed above.

  12. Finish the install.

Mac Instructions

  1. Start out by downloading the correct driver from the Konica Minolta website. Make sure to download the driver for your specific operating system.

  2. Go to "System Preferences" on your computer

  3. From there select "Printers and Scanners"

  4. This should show you a list of printers, select the "+" button to add a new printer.

  5. In the new window that has popped up, make selection "IP"

  6. Make certain that the "Protocol:" is "HP Jetdirect - Socket" and the "Address:" is the name of the printer you would like to add plus ".statler.wvu.edu" (e.g. bw256aer.statler.wvu.edu). This is known as its full DNS name. The bottom of the window should have a selection labeled "Print using:" be sure to select the correct driver for this and not the generic one. When all of your fields are correct, click the add button.

  7. Print a test page to verify.
