Shell Servers

How do I transfer files to and from my non-persistant workspace on the Shell Servers?

To transfer files to and from non-persistant workspace on the LCSEE Shell Servers, please use the instructions below:

You can use a secure copy client such as WinSCP for Windows or Cyberduck for Mac to copy files to and from your temporary workspace on the shell server that you’re using.

Once you’ve installed an SCP client, connect to a shell server. If one is connected to dmzshell002, she would enter the server name as dmzshell002.lcsee.wvu.edu. Use your WVU Login username and password. Set the port to 20110.

To copy files between your non-persistent workspace on that shell server, simply drag and drop your files and folders.

You should plan to do this for each work session. The Shell Servers will clean themselves at 5:00 am daily. Be sure to copy your work from your shell session to your local computer. When you plan to work on your project again, simply repeat the steps above and use an SCP client to copy your latest work onto the shell server in which you’ve been directed.

Please do not connect directly to individual shell servers unless it is within a work session. Some systems may be added and removed by the the load balancer as the pool expands and contracts depending on load, maintenance, and other circumstances.
